Meotida (landscape park)

«Meotida» — regional landscape park in territory of Donetsk area a total area of 14351,9 hectares
The park is created by the decision of Donetsk country council from 6/30/2000 № 23/14-304. The park is named in honor of Meotidy — residing territories меотов.
In 2001 park has been accepted in structure of the international organization «Federation of Europarks».
Park symbol is the bird sewedbeak



Structure

The two-kilometer coastal strip of sea of Azov is included in park "Meotida" structure in administrative borders of Donetsk area in territory New Azov (5078 hectares) and Pershotravnevogo (7939 hectares) areas.

Into park structure have entered: wildlife preserves of nation-wide value of "Bakai of the Curve plait», «Elenchaksky bakai», «the Belosarajsky plait» and «Priazovsky herons», an ornithological wildlife preserve of local value «Krivokossky estuary», nature sanctuaries of local value «the Curve plait» and «Pine cultures».
In 2004 the regional landscape park «Half-Ovetsky steppe» has been included in structure «Meotida».



Park problems

One of the primary goals of park are: regulation of economic, recreational and scientific activity for the purpose of preservation of natural landscapes, objects of a plant and animal life, monuments of history and culture of the given territory; working out and introduction of scientific methods of preservation of landscapes in the conditions of economic and recreational use, introduction of ecologically safe technologies of agricultural production; creation of favorable conditions for the organized tourism and rest; regulation of quantity having a rest within the limits of recreational loadings.

Flora and fauna

In "Meotide" typical and unique vegetative groupings of a coastal strip of sea of Azov are protected. The flora totals 640 kinds, including more than 40 эндемических. 49 formations saline, steppe, marsh, water, sandy and синантропической vegetation are allocated. In the Red book of Ukraine 15 kinds of flora are brought.

In park it is noticed more than 250 kinds of birds. The majority of them water. About 100 kinds of birds nest in park territory. Mammals in park 47 kinds, reptiles — 7 kinds, fishes — 79 kinds, insects — 1500 kinds are.
